Okay so... here we go! First of all, I think anyone who doesn't already know who this girl needs to watch this video. It's a few minutes, but it pretty much tells you everything you need to know about all of the people in cycle 5. This WAS cycle 5. From the cunty bitch who ends up winning the season, to her victim who was unfortunately also one of the most UNLIKEABLE characters simply because she had an extremely "different" manner of speaking. I hated Alamela during the season, but I hated Demelza as well. A very awkward and unfortunate situation all around. WATCH:



Awkward moment for Priscilla - she signed that girl and she has lasted longer than 5 minutes in her agency Not surprisingly, cycle 4 was hugely controversial because of the 'bully' won the cycle and the girl she bullied came nowhere near the top half of the group. It's an unfortunate incident but such is the risk you take when a competition doesn't depend on public opinion. I'd much rather a snotty bitch like Demelza winning a competition than the "voting public" getting to choose the winner - funnily enough it was the very next cycle that the public vote was introduced (connection?) and we were treated to absolute disaster that was Tahnee winning over Cassi and Clare - Trojan has talked about this in her write-up for Tahnee already btw so go and read that one again (link to her write-up can be found in the First Post of this thread) - and a slew of voting disasters ever since (including the wrong-winner drama of cycle 6, and the blatantly racist winner-pick of cycle 8 - a tirade I am saving for Shanali's write-up a long time from now).

Now, back to Demelza - you've seen her nomination photo. She looks very NOT-model-size, and this was a recurring theme in the first half of the cycle. Nobody with eyes would ever say she was fat, but she has a tendency to photograph plus-size - usually when the photo has a lot of colour in it, or her body isn't positioned well.






Queen Charlotte even called her a jelly bottle - or what some might refer to as a "skinny-fat" - someone who is thin but lacks any muscle tone, if they jump up and down, they wobble. Bitch needs to work out, let's put it that way. She then spends the remainder of the episode (Episode 1) telling us how she had to move schools multiple times because she was bullied apparently, and then cementing her role as the bully of the season it's a very interesting transformation to see. The worst thing about Demelza here is that this cycle is objectively not that talent-rich. The vast majority of these girls aren't model potential in the show and went on to have lackluster to non-existent careers. So what happens is all of the judges hate Demelza BUT can never cut her because her photos are usually 10x better than a lot of the others. Demelza is a right little cow, but when her photos work, they really work.




There's also this whole episode about a pair of shoes where Demelza bought some $275 shoes, then gets pressured into "lending" Alyce $175 to get the same pair but in black (lol fuck right off!) and then Alyce shows them off before Demelza gets the chance to. Like this is seriously the drama between teenage girls I mean jeez. I could link the video.... but I won't because it's not as exciting as it sounds, it more one of those easter eggs that people who've watched the show remember - "THE SHOES!" so go watch the show if you haven't already! We're more than 60 cuts into this thing, you could've marathoned it by now.

As the season goes on, Demelza's attitude doesn't change, and she even ramps up the bullying before Alamela's elimination to the point they have a 'Carrie' moment and tip a bucket of water (not blood...) over her head and then make up some bullshit about 'understanding.. who the fuck knows. Her only real nemesis as the the season goes on is the Goddess Alexandra, who naturally in the finale got robbed of the win in a mystery tie-break that never gets revealed (3-3 tie, then it's just announced that she wins...for some reason). What does become obvious is that she starts getting a winner's edit. It's like they tried to say she'd changed from the bullying little cow in the beginning to a deserving winner, but it never worked and so by the end of the season, her announcement as the winner was the opposite of well-received by anyone.

That's not to say Demelza totally failed as a model or anything - she was okay, and had some pretty lovely shoots.

I'd love to say Demelza is still around, doing stuff with her life, but I can't find anything that's noticeable more recent than 2009 - a year after she won the competition. The latest was her commenting on 2013 NY Fashion Week saying she didn't both auditioning for shows because they considered her too fat. 5 years after the show, and her body-type is still an issue for her. :/

This didn't even take me a minute to decide. For all the ribbing I've been laying on PDC about cutting Izzy the very next time she came my way there is just no justifiable reason to sabotage the later stages of the rankdown by putting this snoozfest of a girl through just to be malicious. I mean, at least Izzy brought a bit of personality and edge to her photos and to the show.. Anika was the girl who I was actively rooting against in Cycle 3 because she was one of the more boring characters but she kept getting masses of praise and first call-outs of mediocre work.




Anika was called out first for these two very ordinary shots but the one that stung the most (and still does), was the praise she received for her acting abilities in the opening challenge of the season - the promo shoot. You've heard PDC and especially myself go on a fair bit about the cycle 3 promo and it's red hot, hot, hotness but, of all the hot things to be found in that promo I would NOT say Anika's school-ma'am office worker was the hottest..

The judges however, disagreed...




So Anika was praised relentlessly early on and looked like a front-runner for the first quarter of the cycle, which was what made her abrupt fall from grace all the more shocking. She was eliminated suddenly following an acting/photoshoot challenge in which all the girls were given an emotion to convey while posing with hot-stuff James Mitchell and Anika was given the softball "contentment". This is what she produced....



Girl, how on motherfucking EARTH did you manage to screw this up SO BADLY?? LOOK AT THAT MAN!! All you needed to do was look CONTENT lying next to that GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS MAN!! Hoooowwwwww did you not manage that??? WHY DO YOU LOOK SO UNCOMFORTABLE??? AARRGGHHH

So yeah, by the time my aneurysm was over Anika was sent packing and the cycle's rightful goddess would begin her well-timed rise to international fame (that's a story for another cut though)...
